Galvanized Iron Sheet: (GI Sheets) Everything You Need To Know

Share post:

Galvanized iron sheets (GI Sheets) are one of the many types of metal sheeting used in the construction industry today. A large part of their popularity comes from their relative ease of use, versatility, and relatively low cost, making them one of the most popular options in the market.

No matter what type of project you have planned, they can help you get the job done right while saving you money and time in the process.

When you’re building an outdoor structure, it’s important to be prepared with the right tools and supplies before you begin work. This means making sure you have the right size and type of galvanized iron sheeting for your project to ensure you finish it as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

Before you consider buying Galvanized Iron Sheets (GI Sheets), it’s important to learn about the material, and how to use it in your construction project. If you’re wondering what GI Sheets are, how they’re made, or how they work, read on to get answers to these questions and more!

Basic Types of Galvanized Iron

There are four main types of galvanized iron and each one is designed to be used in a specific application. The most common is hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) which makes up about 80% of all galvanized iron on the market. It’s been treated with molten zinc at between 800–1000 degrees Fahrenheit, a process that can help prevent corrosion, but leaves it susceptible to rusting if it’s scratched or exposed to acidic materials.

Spray- or cold- dipped galvanized (CDG) takes just 5–15 minutes and uses roughly 10 times less zinc than HDG; however, it can’t prevent weathering as well as HDG because there aren’t any solid protective layers built up on its surface.

Hot Dipped Mild Steel Sheet & Strip

Mild steel hot dipped galvanized sheets are manufactured by dipping them in molten zinc and then painting them with a hot zinc coating. This process results in maximum protection against corrosion on mild steel.

These hot-dipped galvanized mild steel sheets come as thick plates, coils, and strips in various sizes, widths, and lengths. Hot dipped galvanized is ideal for exposed outdoor applications where there will be continuous exposure to corrosive elements such as salt air, air pollution, industrial pollutants, and heavy road dust.

This type of sheet has good resistance against atmospheric conditions of coastal areas such as spray from sea water in coastal areas or industrial pollutants due to nearby factories. They have a low requirement for maintenance after installation but do need regular painting at about 6 months intervals depending on usage.

Coil Packing and Transportation

Most companies provide coil packing with their galvanized iron sheets. When ordering, you’ll need to know how long it is and which direction it was rolled. Make sure there are no dents or bends in your metal before you unpack it.

You don’t want any kinks in your project or else it could compromise its structural integrity. Also, make sure that you keep all of your packaging materials (e.g., plastic wrap, pallets) as they could come in handy if you ever need to move or store your metal later on down the line.

For example, use them as an impromptu cover during storage periods between projects; just be sure not to let them sit out too long as they can become damaged and potentially start a fire!

Fabrication of G.I.Sheet

Prior to galvanizing, iron sheets are made using high-quality iron which is supplied from our mines. The iron bars are run through heating furnaces where they are then processed in hot-rolling mills and cold-rolling mills before being cut into plates of specific dimensions.

After that, these plates are joined together to form bigger sheets and coils with a thickness of 0.6mm-1.4mm, widths ranging from 1200mm up to 4500mm, and lengths depending on clients’ specifications. The sheets can be made by using low carbon or high carbon steels with either plain or smooth surfaces….

Roofing Sheets

When you’re installing a new roof or repairing an old one, it is important that you have plenty of options in regard to materials. One material you should look into is galvanized iron sheets. Many people don’t know about these sheets, but there are many reasons why they are so great.

This material can improve your home and keep your family safe from moisture and leakage which can cause mold and more problems in your home. The right sheet metal materials will also help with energy efficiency which means lower bills overall when it comes time to use heating and cooling systems!

Whether you are replacing old corroded sheets or installing brand new ones, having plenty of choices like these is essential so be sure to ask about all possible options before deciding on what works best for your project.

Fencing Decorative Material

There are different types of fence materials, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. You will need to decide on which material is right for your situation based on both aesthetics and cost.

For example, vinyl fencing is a good choice if you want something that looks like wood or metal but doesn’t require any maintenance. Wood fencing requires upkeep, but it can be more aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly than other options. Before buying anything, think about how much time you’re willing to spend maintaining it and consider how important aesthetics are in your situation.

Safety Measures During Installation/ Execution

Stay safe while you’re up on a ladder by taking precautionary measures. Make sure your ladder is rated properly and that it’s installed correctly. Also, use a safety harness when needed; most job sites require their employees to wear one during installation.

Finally, be very careful when walking on or around your new galvanized iron sheet. It can get slippery, so be sure you’ve got a tight grip and watch out for any exposed sharp edges! If you fall off your ladder because of slick sheet metal, it may result in serious injury or even death. Our next post will include our top 10 tips and tricks for staying safe during installation!
